چکیده

This article studies the impact on the design of scheduling algorithms for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems of two traffic models described in the evaluation methodology proposals from standardization bodies: the full buffer and the finite buffer traffic models. The analysis concentrates on utility-based scheduling with an a-fair utility function for Non-Real Time (NRT) services. The results show that a gradient scheduling algorithm is able to maximize the aggregate utility over all the users when the less realistic full buffer model is adopted; but not when the finite buffer model is applied. The results also show that with the full buffer model a gradient scheduler exhibits a trade-off between average user throughput and the user throughput at 5% outage, but it does not when the more realistic finite buffer is used. Therefore, it is concluded that designs of scheduling algorithms for NRT services for OFDMA systems carried out under the full buffer model assumption may fail to provide the desired performance benefits in realistic scenarios. Based on the results presented, a recommendation on scheduling design is provided.

Cross-layer design for radio resource allocation based on priority scheduling in OFDMA wireless access network

The orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) system has the advantages of flexible subcarrier allocation and adaptive modulation with respect to channel conditions. However, transmission overhead is required in each frame to broadcast the arrangement of radio resources to all mobile stations within the coverage of the same base station. This overhead greatly affects the utilization...

Hybrid Multiple Access for Uplink OFDMA System

We propose a hybrid multiple access (HMA) for uplink orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, which combines two resource sharing schemes: a scheduling-based resource allocation (SBRA) scheme and a contentionbased resource allocation (CBRA) scheme. The SBRA scheme is appropriate for non-real time high data rate traffic, and, CBRA is appropriate for near-real time low/mediu...

An optimized scheduling scheme in OFDMA WiMax networks

This paper proposes an optimized scheduling scheme in OFDMA-based WiMax networks to achieve both optimized system throughput and a complete QoS implementation for various types of traffic flows. Our scheduling scheme includes two components, one is the resource allocation for each user; the other is the QoS scheduling for various traffic sessions. Specifically an optimization problem is formula...

in English Multi-carrier Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems promise enhanced performance as compared to preceding single carrier ones. It is imperative to analyze the performance evaluation of these systems prior to network deployment which is approaching quite fast. Therefore, in this thesis we look into dimensioning issues related to OFDMA based system. The study of...

Particle Swarm Optimization Based Approach for Resource Allocation and Scheduling in OFDMA Systems

Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems have attracted considerable attention through technologies such as 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX). OFDMA is a flexible multiple-access technique that can accommodate many users with widely varying applications, data rates, and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. OFDMA has...
